Description of “You Are Amazing”
Inspired by positive self-talk, “You Are Amazing” was carved for a daily reminder to be your best self! An immeasurable number of people out there (myself included) bring themselves down with little comments they say to themselves. Whether it’s about skill, weight, actions, thoughts or even something you said out loud, it’s incredible easy to be negative towards yourself.
Imagine for a moment that you’re walking down a busy street. You glance up and see someone look at you. The kindest thing to do would be to smile, nod your head and keep walking or if you are courageous you could walk up to them and strike a conversation. Instead, because you have negative self talk, your reaction is to look back at the ground, pretend you didn’t see them see you and begin an inner dialogue with yourself about how you had to be mistaken because no one would look at someone who looks like you.
Simple enough comment that easily comes to your mind, but it is negative. How many times have you been negative to yourself without even thinking about it? Do you do it so often now that it is second nature? Do you even realize it anymore?
If you are honest with yourself, we have all been there and we have all done that countless times. I continually second-guess my skill(s) as an artist. Some people say that is just what artists do, but is it really healthy? There’s a huge difference between being your own worst critic and talking down to yourself. Regrettably, I find myself doing both!
A Mixed World
Of course, there are those out there who are the opposite as well. They are too confident and too positive that they put blinders on to their real skills and talents. They want to believe so desperately that they are amazing at something they may only be mediocre at and therefore miss the chances to be truly amazing at something else because they are excruciatingly centered around being good at something they are not.
“You Are Amazing” emulates the delicate balance between confidence and that type of arrogance. You truly are amazing and when you stop telling yourself that you suck or that you are worthless or that you don’t deserve to feel the way you feel, you will open your own eyes to a beautiful world that is full of both light and dark and order and chaos.
I made “You are Amazing” on a small, live-edge round of Poplar so that if it speaks to your soul, you could hang it anywhere! Hang it by your front door so you see it every time you go outside. Put it beside your bathroom mirror so every morning when you wake up and wash your face you look right into it. Set it by your favorite chair, the television, at the top of the stairs, or quite literally anywhere you want! The size is perfect for any location that you feel would create the most positive self-talk impact in your life!
