I…love…turtles…!
This was the first piece I played around with on a hanging style that wasn’t a simple sawtooth or d-ring. I think I redid the hemp cord three times before figuring out that this one was most fitting.
Sea Turtles are the only reptile that I have fallen in love with. While others are cute, like the gecko and frogs, sea turtles are in their own category. Strong, dependable, fighting for life the moment they hatch, they are admirable. I wouldn’t mind coming back as a sea turtle – just saying!
Sea turtles inspire me so much that I carved them into one of my limited pieces of heritage black walnut! I must say, they are elegant and beautiful and I’m impressed with how much I love them.
This piece was something that I did for myself. After looking up some inspiration on my favorite site, I honestly decided to just do a collection of different sea turtle designs all “swimming” together. Aside from InZaneO’s skateboard, this was the first time I did small, delicate work.
Keep in mind, I wasn’t doing this as a business yet and only had a handful of bits to fit into the Dremel tool. It was complicated and the designs of one or two…or three changed due to the limited bits I had.
I still got my desired results though and I would chance almost nothing about it! Except for drilling the holes along the side. I should have planned that prior to designing, but what can I say? Sometimes, spur of the moment creates the best ideas!
