I created Natural Devotion for my closest friend. About four years ago, she got married to an incredible guy. I was able to attend and be a part of her bridal party, but I had little to give as a gift and promised her I would send them something when I could.
Lo-and-behold, time kept passing and I was never able to catch up enough to gift what I wanted. I know me being able to take the time and be a part of their incredible day was gift enough for her, but I personally wanted to show her how much she means to me. I am humbled and eternally grateful of her friendship every day. So, when I began Schaedings, I vowed to myself that I would make them something worth the wait.
Natural Devotion can probably be considered a “normal” type of wedding sign, but it’s unique how I did opposite carving. The surname on the left hand side is relieved (stands out) while the names and bold ‘D’ on the right hand side are engraved (sunk) into the flat surface of the wood.
The Depths of Natural Devotion
I had a lot of fun testing different depths for Natural Devotion. The surname is deep carved, the large ‘D’ and infinity symbol is mid-depth carved and the names/date/heart are lightly carved. My only disappointment is that I should have done the infinity a little LESS deep and made the names/date a little MORE deep.
If you notice, the date kind of blends into the red mahogany stain I used for the surface, so you have to get a little closer to read it. But, I still love how it turned out. I’m really pleased with the results and can’t wait for her to see it!
Devotion in this day and age is hard to come by. Take a moment and express your love for your family, friends, pets and significant other. Let them know that you care by sharing a hug and a smile. Sometimes, it’s the simplest things that show devotion! 🌲
