After seeing my first couple pieces, a friend commissioned me to create a custom wood sign for his personal project, Film Goals.
Film Goals critiques and opens a dialogue to discuss the inner workings of the film business. I’ve said it before and I will keep saying it – I love collaboration!
He wanted a simple design on a light colored wood so I went with a beautiful piece of poplar that I found in a local home improvement store. I contrasted the blonde wood with a dark walnut stain that complemented the film reel feel.
The logo for his project was simple, yet intricate at the same time. I made a mistake that I almost thought was unfixable though! I allowed myself time to take in the mistake and figure out a way to fix it without compromising the integrity of his logo. Turned out, he loved the final result and that’s all that I look for!
The hardest part of making customized logo signs is that there is no room for error. At least for me it’s the hardest part. The “client” who hired you knows exactly what their logo looks like. Therefore the margin for error is nonexistent. Compare that to my personal art pieces? I can make what I consider a mistake to the design and play off of it to make the piece that much better.
All of that said, I was thrilled with out well the custom sign for Film Goals turned out!
