“Te Amo Eagle” is another custom piece designed as a gift for someone special. I was given this phrase for inspiration: “something with an eagle soaring in the sky.”
It was frustrating and freeing to have little to no direction. Since I didn’t have a portfolio of pieces, I was able to play around a bit with this one. It’s the first time I used multiple objects to try to portray depth as well. It didn’t quite go as planned, but I liked the results.
I fell in love with the moon and would say that it was the most frustrating part of the design. The eagle was detailed and had sharp edges, sure, but the moon was the bane of my existence for the length of the piece. I was once again stuck with only a handful of bits/burrs to use. I wasn’t even aware at the time that Dremel made smaller, 1mm bits/burrs. They would have been handy from the get-go!
Eagles are so masculine and though my first thought was to have a sun, I liked the idea of the more feminine moon counteracting the overhaul of bold “maleness”.
It’s also of note that this was the first time I put a design on both sides! Since I knew the piece was for a significant other, I wanted to surprise them with adding the phrase “te amo” on the back side in a large, scripted font. Saying “I Love You” in their native language may have been sentimental, but it was perfect.
