The hand-crafted skateboard light that I made for InZaneO was probably the most difficult and thought-out piece in my repertoire until I began Schaedings.
A friend of mine loves all things boarding. Skateboarding, snowboarding, surfing – all of it! I had the “genius” idea of carving a tribal-styled sunset falling behind the ocean while his social media handle crawls up the length of the board. It obviously doesn’t have wheels installed, so I again had the “genius” idea of making it into a light.
Let me tell you, wow. First off, the design I used for the sunset was extremely intricate and small. It caused a massive amount of difficulty for me when it came down to carving. Then, when I chose the light fixture, I didn’t fully think it through when choosing a light where the switch came out the side instead of the back. After that, I also noticed that the top looked empty compared to the bottom so instead of doing something super awesome, I picked a random tribal-esque design and went for it.
Earlier when I said well thought-out, I was being sarcastic. My “genius” idea was “Oh! I’ll make him a skateboard light for his birthday!”
I mean, it looks great and he loved it, but I learned my lesson. Plan ahead in excruciating detail before purchasing and designing!
